WBSO 2008 Edition

The Wilson Badminton Swiss Open – Swiss Open or WBSO – 2008 started officially wednesday. Petr Koukal, Czech Republic, (left) was one happy player. He met Chen Jin, China – last weeks winner of the All England Mens Singles Championships. That may be part of the reason – but the chinese withdrew with back problems in the first game, and let Petr Koukal unexpectedly into the 2. round.

The 2008 Champs

New names – and/or – faces and the old ones made the finals of the Danish National Championship a not too predictable affair. The latter first: Tine Rasmussen (left) won her fifth championship, beating Nanna Brosolat Jensen for the 2. year in a row, 21-18, 21-10.

Finals lineup

The order of play for the Danish Nationals Championship are as follows: Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, Mixed Double, Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles. The first match starts at 12:15. Online “Visual Livescore” will be available on Tournament Software.

Retired? – So what!

Womens Double 2. round saw some interesting action, when two girls who retired with high world ranking points upset the draw today. Rikke Olsen Siegemund (formerly known only as Rikke Olsen) and Mette Schjoldager (left) beat top seeds Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Lena Frier Kristiansen.
